New safety rules for walkers

The walker is indicated as one of the culprits of the most serious accidents in the second half of life. Falls by stairs, wounds, burns and blows to the head are some of the main damages that can cause.

As you can see, its use is quite criticized and controversial, which is why the European Commission has just approved a stricter standard for the safety of walkers which requires that they pass stability controls and adapt the designs to reduce the danger of injury.

In some countries such as Canada, its manufacture and importation have been banned, in others such as France its use is discouraged, while in Spain it is also recommended to avoid its use and in the case of using it, it is not advised to learn to walk or leave to the child for long periods.

The damage can be very serious since the walker can get stuck and easily tip over irregular surfaces or on carpets, and of course cause falls by stairs, the most frequent incident, which can cause significant injuries, mostly in the head.

Although the new European safety standard on walkers This is a voluntary standard, without it the product is not considered safe in the community market, so you run the risk of being withdrawn from its commercialization.

Of course, parents are responsible for their use, but I think that toys that pose a serious danger to our children should meet the strictest safety standards and if these are not enough, be prohibited.
