A soccer player retires from football to donate the liver to his nephew

His name is Alejandro Benitez and, although he is not a world-renowned footballer, he is one of the most popular strikers of the Larroque Central, team of the Argentine C Tournament in which he has been active for years. Lulo, which is how everyone knows him, is 30 years old, and besides scoring goals he works in a 'chicken factory'.

His life ran between these activities when he suddenly made a most important decision: leave football to donate the liver to his nephew.

Milo, the baby born with liver problems

His nephew is now nine months old, his name is Milo, and is the third son of his older sister, Natalia. Already at birth the doctors realized that the child had a problem. Apparently, the communication between the liver and the gallbladder had a serious malformation and the best treatment was to do a transplant.

After the first analysis they saw that Milo's mother was compatible, but having been intervened from the heart a while ago they had to rule out that possibility. So Lulo appeared, who was also a compatible donor, and he didn't think twice. If this could save his nephew's life, he would do everything in his power.

"I will never regret having hung up my boots"

As we read in La Vanguardia, Lulo said that although he was warned that he would have to leave football, he didn't care, that he would never regret it.

The investment was complicated a little and what at the beginning were going to be three hours ended up being seven. But it was harder, he explains, about the little boy, who had to be twelve hours: "He went into the hospital very badly, he was malnourished, green ... But he is already recovering. I think if he continues like this, he will end up playing in Central Larroque, ha ha ha ”.

The whole family, teammates and even those responsible for the work turned to such a feat: they even told him to take the days that were necessary.

Now he is in the process of recovery, happy to see that your nephew is getting better, and happy because if everything goes well, he himself will be a father within a few months of a baby who, without a doubt, can be one of his cousin Milo's best friends, thanks to his father.
