Nada Al - Ahdal: the girl who wants to escape from a forced marriage and continue living her childhood

Nothing and his uncle

He is only 11 years old, but her parents have committed her to marry (against her will) with a man older than her. Nada Al - Ahdal is Yemeni and has lived with his uncle in Sanaa (the capital of Yemen) since he was two years old.

We have already seen in Peques and Más, that arranging the marriage of girls (many do not reach 10 years), is a common practice in some Muslim and Hindu communities; although usually an economic criterion prevails since the man who wishes to marry a girl offers money to his parents.

The protagonist of our story was recently required to move (after nine years) with her parents and siblings. The environment in which her family of origin lives - according to her, even children take drugs - is very different from the city that has allowed her to study.

However, the surprise was capitalized when his mother announced that he had arranged his marriage. Despite the threats, Nothing escaped and tried to return with his uncle.

With the help of his manager, since apparently the girl besides studying is a singer in a group, he was able to hide and today he is again with his relative, who has been accused of kidnapping.

Fear is not enough to stop her now, and she hopes to continue living her childhood. This news is spreading little by little through the media (Australia is one of the countries in which it has the most echo). So hopefully all this stir serves something.

In the video we see a girl who has things clear, and declares that she is not for sale. He claims that he would rather die than marry, and that it is a problem that affects many children, some of whom opt for suicide.

This new I find it violent and uncomfortable, violent because, biologically and psychologically, children are the same for all children on the planet, regardless of their culture, and therefore to force them to marry is to interfere with their development and obviate their needs and wills.

Uncomfortable because I don't know the reasons why the little girl was adopted by her uncle (although knowing the future that awaited her I don't know if I'm glad she didn't live with her parents), and also due to the uncertainty of its present and its future. On the other hand, at that age, perhaps he should not be dedicated to the show, but rather to play, have friends and learn, but the solution of marrying an adult is much worse, of course.

Nada Al - Ahdal has been very brave escaping from a forced marriage, and I wonder if she will be well taken care of now. The western world lives very oblivious to these practices, although after knowing the case of Nujood - also Yemeni - (who with 10 years was forced to marry, and then got a divorce), many are waking up from indifference.
