PEGI: know everything about your children's video games

A few days ago we talked about the meaning of the symbols that appear in video games, one of which was the PEGI system. The age classification system of Pan-European Information on Games, PEGI (for its acronym in English "Pan European Game Information") was established in 2003 in order to help parents make informed decisions when purchasing video games.

In this way the different classification systems used until then in the European sphere were unified. The PEGI website can be useful if we want to know the classification that a specific game has obtained, since it includes a large database to consult. In the search section, we can enter the game data about which we have doubts, putting the title.

We can also search by gender, organization, country of publication or platform. The page includes a "New games" section, where the latest news for Nintendo, PC, Wii ...

This system is already used in most of Europe, in 30 countries (Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Latvia, Norway, Slovenia, Belgium, Estonia, Iceland, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Bulgaria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Sweden, Cyprus, France, Israel, Malta, Romania, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Slovak Republic and United Kingdom).

The PEGI system is backed by the leading console manufacturers, so we find its symbols in most of the games we find on the shelves in this European arena, and also in many Latin American countries in imported games.

In some videogames of the database we see the link to its official website, and in all we will have the classification by ages (the number indicates the age from which the game is recommended) and by inappropriate content (foul language, violence , fear… ).

So I recommend you go through the PEGI website to know everything about the video games of the little ones if you have any questions. And although children games are quite recognizable, we can get some surprise, or discover that it is better to wait at age seven for a particular game.
