"Let yourself go": a 'lipdub' for World Down Syndrome Day, which breaks down barriers and prejudices

Today is celebrated on World Down Syndrome Day, in a day of global awareness officially established by the United Nations since 2012. With the various activities planned, it is intended to raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is, and how people who have it play a vital role in our lives and communities

In Spain it is also celebrated, and Down Spain has recorded an official spot for this year's campaign, called “Let yourself go”. It is a video that tries break the barriers and prejudices that still persist; and bring society to the group of people with Down syndrome. “Even if you only arrive earlier, together we will do it further”, is the message conveyed by this video, which is made with the collaboration of singer-songwriter David Toiber, and the Aprocor Foundation.

The barriers faced by people with Down syndrome are actually barriers that harm the entire society. Is there any other way to build an inclusive society that is not including us all in the process of building it?

Globally, a website called World Down Syndrome Day has been created, which collects bursts of the different events carried out by the global community.

This is the time to advocate for the rights, inclusion and well-being of people with Down Syndrome.
