How to make the child be fed with your milk in the nursery

The WHO (World Health Organization) recommends exclusive breastfeeding up to six months and supplement it with other foods for at least two years of the child.

At that age there are many children who go to nursery school and not for that reason they should give up being fed with breast milk. Therefore, if this is what you have chosen, we will tell you how to make the child be fed with your milk in the nursery.

The Spanish Association of Pediatrics has established a Protocol for breastfeeding in nursery schools so that the child can continue to receive the most suitable food during the first years of life.

Nursery schools should make it easier for mothers who wish to feed their children with their own milk, either allowing the mother to go to the center to breastfeed the child, offering a comfortable, intimate and quiet space, or through administration of breast milk previously extracted and stored when the mother cannot move.

Transportation and conservation of breast milk

It must be carried the amount needed for each day, distributed in several bottles, according to the shots that the child will make, to avoid excessive manipulation. It can be milk extracted or thawed that day or the day before. For more information, review what we have talked about how to store, refrigerate and thaw breast milk.

The milk must be transported in a portable cooler with frigolines and once in the nursery school it must be stored in a refrigerator at a temperature between 0 ºC and 4 ºC. It is very important that each bottle has a sign with the child's name to avoid confusion.

When it is time to take the baby, the milk will be heated by soaking the container that contains it in another with hot water. Breast milk should not be boiled, or heated in the microwave, to avoid the risk of burns.
