Breastfeeding Advertising (II)

We saw one of the announcements of yesterday breastfeeding advertising of a campaign carried out by the Argentine Advertising Council and Nutrired, an organization that fights against malnutrition in this country.

In this case, again with the best of intentions, they fall into some inconsistencies that should have been avoided with the advice of medical professionals specializing in breastfeeding or experienced breastfeeding groups, such as the important League of Argentine Milk , whose campaigns even in official bodies we have already talked about.

As in the previous one, babies, against all the recommendations of help so that mothers can breastfeed, appear alone in the nest and neither the father is allowed access. Fortunately, in most hospitals this custom is being abandoned, which not only interferes with breastfeeding, but also with the emotional needs of the mother and child in those first days of intense emotional bonding.

In addition, the voiceover, although encouraging to provide breastfeeding, without hesitation, only mentions the first year of life, when it is well known that the World Health Organization recommends keeping it at least two years.

The truth is that this campaign has disappointed me. Mothers with problems in breastfeeding do not make it easy because the context of the announcement is totally incoherent, and does not offer information on where to go if they want to breastfeed and have difficulties, they have a hard time.

Therefore, good for the initiative to give breastfeeding advertising, but regulate by the information and the staging. I see it a bit useless to encourage breastfeeding without offering help to women who do not get it or who could achieve it with better attention. Maybe I am too critical, but I think this advertising advice will have little real impact as they have done. What do you think?
