Effects caused by arsenic in future babies

A group of researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA) and the Environmental Toxicology Research of Thailand, have released a study showing the effects caused by arsenic in future babies. Arsenic is a toxic chemical compound, however, it all depends on the quantity and type, since it can be a compound used as an additive in metal alloys, pyrotechnics, glass or as part of a food fertilizer product What we eat

In fact, arsenic is an essential element for life and its deficiency could provide various health complications, our diet gives us the arsenic that our body needs through vegetables, meat, fish or cereals. Apparently, in Thailand there is an excessive assimilation of arsenic by its inhabitants and conceived babies have high rates of this element in their body. Studies in 32 umbilical cords show this, arsenic produces alterations in the human genome, experts say they have found up to 450 genes (in the umbilical cords) that showed very significant differences. Arsenic can favor the appearance of cancer over the years in these children, so it is necessary to carry out an exhaustive control over the levels contributed to the organism.

It occurs to us that foods that are grown are over-treated with pesticides and they incorporate too much arsenic that then passes into the body. It could also be water pollution, this excess of pesticides is diluted in the aquifer deposits with which the population is supplied, etc.

The conclusion is evident, an arsenic exposure in fetuses causes various problems in babies, it would be necessary for Thai authorities to carry out more thorough controls on the water and food consumed by the population and prohibit the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides. These products are mostly abused by those poorer families who want to guarantee the development of their crops, but the consequences are those, an uncertain future for their children.
