The new International Adoption Law has been approved

At the beginning of the year we met the draft of the new Law on International Adoption that was presented at the Council of Ministers, in which it was announced that Spain would prohibit the adoption of children from countries in conflict or devastated by natural disasters and neither would the adoption be allowed. of children who come from a country that lacks or has a precarious authority that does not guarantee full adoption. All this is to ensure the interests of minors.

Yesterday the new Law was passed in the Justice Commission of the Congress of Deputies, and it will arrive urgently to the Senate to be definitively approved before the end of the year. The new International Adoption Law It reflects the prohibition of adopting children from countries that experience a war or have been devastated by a natural disaster, as well as those residing in countries without a specific authority that controls and guarantees a good adoption process.

Children who have been temporarily received for medical treatment, vacations, studies or other similar reasons, may be adopted. In addition, a new right for children, upon reaching the age of majority, at age 18, will have the right to know their biological origin, information that the International Adoption Collaborating Entities (Ecais) will have.

The Ecais will enjoy other functions in order to protect minors, provide information, advice, file procedures, entity records and other efforts to ensure compliance with the Law avoiding situations such as those in Chad or Ethiopia.
