Tests to detect carbon monoxide in babies of smoking mothers

Today is World No Tobacco Day, a special date for mothers who smoke and want the best for their children, quit tobacco.

Throughout the day they will be held free in Castellón, Spain, testing pregnant women, whether active smokers or not, to check the amount of carbon monoxide present in the baby.

The program, promoted by the Azahar Association, tries to alert women to the negative effects of cigarettes for their babies in pregnancy, whether they smoke or not, because even if it is not through the mother, the effect of smoke affects the baby in More sites than we think.

These types of tests have already been carried out in other cities and the association intends to take a mobile team throughout the Valencian Community so that more women have the possibility to verify it.

If you live in Castellón, you can approach the Jaume I University and the Old Casino of Castellón today to take the test, called cooximetry.

The technique is very simple. Air is inspired and expires in a special device, similar to the breathalyzer control, which measures the amount of carbon monoxide in fetal hemoglobin.

I think the campaign is very good, because it allows women to know specifically, with data, how much damage they are doing to their babies when smoking. In our blog you can find several articles on the subject.

I want to believe that no conscious woman who loves her child tries to harm her. The first step is to dare to blow the device, which, incidentally, should be sold in pharmacies.
