2018-2019 school calendar by Autonomous Communities: beginning, end of course and school holidays

The new school year starts between September 7 and 12 in all the autonomous communities. We already know the calendar our children will have during the year, their holidays and their holiday periods. Again, parents will have to organize ourselves to attend them on those days when they don't have class but we do have to work.

We have analyzed the calendars of all the autonomous communities, and We tell you what dates you should consider so that your children's vacations and school bridges do not catch you off guard.

National holidays

Regardless of the regional, local and freely available days that each school marks at the beginning of the course, the national holidays for all the autonomous communities They are:

  • Friday, October 12, National Holiday Day

  • Thursday, November 1, All Saints Day

  • Thursday, December 6, Constitution Day

  • Tuesday, December 25, Christmas

  • Tuesday, January 1, 2019, New Year

  • Holy Thursday and Good Friday, April 18 and 19, 2019

  • Wednesday, May 1, 2019, Labor Day

The Christmas holiday period It will be between December 24 and January 7, both inclusive, although now we will see that in some autonomous communities children must join the classrooms on Monday, the 7th.

As to Easter holidays vary slightly from one community to another, so we will see them in more detail below.

Andalusia

The 2018/2019 academic year in Andalusia will begin on September 10 and end on June 21, 2019, for students of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 17 and end on June 25, with the exception of high school students who will do so on May 31.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 21, both inclusive.
  • Autonomous Holidays: February 28, 2019
  • Provincial holidays: December 7 (day granted by the Territorial Delegation) and March 1, 2019, day of the educational community.
  • Local festivities of the municipalities of this province established by the competent counseling up to a maximum of two.

Aragon

The 2018/2019 academic year in Aragon will begin on September 10 and end on June 20, for students of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 13 and end on June 24.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 22, both included.
  • Autonomous Holidays: April 23, 2019
  • Provincial Holidays: October 11 in Zaragoza, November 2 and December 7 in the three Aragonese provinces, February 14 and 15, 2019 in Huesca and Teruel, March 4, 2019 in Zaragoza.
  • Local festivities: two more days of local holidays included in the work calendar of each locality.

Asturias

The 2018/2019 academic year in Asturias will begin on September 10 and end on June 19, for the teaching of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For High School students, classes will begin on September 14 and end on June 25.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 19, both included.
  • Other holidays: October 31, November 2, December 7, and March 1, 4 and 5, 2019.
  • Local festivities of the municipalities of this province established by the competent counseling.

Cantabria

The 2018/2019 academic year in Cantabria will begin on September 7 and end on June 21, for the teaching of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 14 and end on June 27.

To the national holidays we must add:

  • The week between Monday, October 29 until Friday, November 2, both included.
  • Christmas holidays: from December 24 to January 6, 2019, both included.
  • February 28 - March 4, 2019, both included.
  • Easter holidays: from April 23 to 29, both included.

Catalonia

The 2018/2019 academic year in Catalonia will begin on September 12 and end on June 21, for the teachings of Infant, Primary, Secondary and Special Education.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 13 to 22, both included
  • Local festivities: we must add two days of local holiday which will determine each municipality. In the event that any of these days falls into non-school, the centers may add to those established freely available within the corresponding school year.
  • Days of free disposal: three freely available holidays that will be distributed equally between the three quarters, depending on each school.

Castile and Leon

The 2018/2019 academic year in Castilla y León will begin on September 10 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Pre-school, Primary and secondary school students enrolled in primary education centers.

For the rest of the Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 17.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 12 to 23, both included.
  • Carnival parties: March 4 and 5, 2019.
  • Other holidays: November 2, December 7.
  • Local festivities of the municipalities of this province established by the competent counseling.

Castilla la Mancha

The 2018/2019 academic year in Castilla la Mancha will begin on September 10 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 13 and end on June 26.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 22, both included.
  • Other holidays: November 2, February 8, 2019 (Teaching Day) and February 11.
  • Local festivities of the municipalities of this province established by the competent counseling. Holidays that are celebrated in non-school periods will preferably be replaced by dates of the first quarter of the school year.

Ceuta

The 2018/2019 academic year in Ceuta will begin on September 11 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Secondary Education.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 19, both included.
  • Days of free disposal: in 2018 they will be on November 2 and December 7. In 2019 it will be the week between April 8 and 12 (inclusive) and June 4.

Madrid's community

The 2018/2019 academic year in the Community of Madrid will begin on September 7 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 10 and end on June 21

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 12 to 22, both included.
  • Autonomous Holidays: May 2.
  • Other holidays: November 2, December 7, March 1 and 4, 2019, May 3, 2019.
  • Local festivities: November 9 and May 15 (only for Madrid capital), and other local festivities determined by each municipality.

Valencian Community

The 2018/2019 academic year in the Valencian Community will begin on September 10 and end on June 20, for students in the second cycle of Infant and Primary Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 10 and end on June 18.

To the national holidays we must add:

  • Christmas holidays: The dates of this holiday period vary with respect to the general rule, since they begin on December 24 and end on January 6, one day earlier than in most communities.
  • Easter holidays: From April 18 to April 29, both included.
  • Autonomous parties: October 9.
  • Other holidays: March 19 and other local festivities, as well as freely available to consider each educational center.

Estremadura

The 2018/2019 academic year in Extremadura will begin on September 12 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary, Secondary and Special Education.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 22, both included.
  • Other holidays: November 2, November 26 (Teacher's Day), December 7, March 18, 2019.
  • Carnival parties: March 4 and 5, 2019.
  • Local festivities established by the respective municipalities
  • 1 day of free disposal which each center will choose in order to promote cultural and recreational activities

Galicia

The 2018/2019 academic year in Galicia will begin on September 12 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 17 and end on June 21.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 22, both included.
  • Carnival parties: from March 4 to 6, both included.
  • Regional party: May 17, Galician Letters Day
  • Other holidays: December 7 and other local festivities established by the competent counseling.

Balearic Islands

The 2018/2019 academic year in the Balearic Islands will begin on September 12 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary, Special and Secondary Education.

To the national holidays we must add:

  • Christmas holidays: The dates of this holiday period vary with respect to the general rule, since they begin on December 24 and end on January 6, one day earlier than in most communities.
  • Easter holidays: from April 18 to 28, both included.
  • Other holidays: February 28, 2019, March 1,
  • Local holidays and freely available: local holidays and two days of free disposition that each center will assign at the beginning of the school year.

Canary Islands

The 2018/2019 academic year in the Canary Islands will begin on September 10 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant and Primary Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 12 and end on June 21.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 19, both included.
  • Island holidays: September 14 and 24, on October 9, and February 2.
  • Regional party: May 30, Canary Day
  • Other holidays: December 7th

The Rioja

The 2018/2019 academic year in La Rioja will begin on September 6 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant and Primary Education.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 7 and end on June 24.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 18 to 28, both included.
  • Regional party: June 9, La Rioja Day
  • Other holidays: November 2, December 7, March 1, 2019 (Educational Community Day)
  • Local festivities: may be proposed up to a maximum of seven days for local parties, provided they are the same for all centers in each locality.

Melilla

The 2018/2019 academic year in the autonomous city of Melilla will begin on September 11 and end on June 21, for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Secondary Education.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 15 to 19, both included.
  • Days of free disposal: November 2, December 7, and in 2019 from April 8 to 12, both included.
  • Regional holiday: September, 17th
  • Local festivities which will determine each municipality.

Murcia

The 2018/2019 academic year in Murcia will begin between September 4 and 10, and will end between June 21 and 25 for students in the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education. The dates vary depending on the municipality we consult.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin between September 12 and 17, also depending on each municipality.

The same goes for the holiday periods and the rest of the festivities, although in general we could talk about the Christmas holidays taking place between December 24 and January 6 (both inclusive), and Easter holidays between 15 and on April 19, both inclusive.

To this we must add the national festivities and other regional, local and freely available parties.

Navarre

The 2018/2019 academic year in Navarra for the students of the second cycle of Infant, Primary and Special Education will begin between September 6 and 10 (it depends on each school), and will end depending on the starting day, but no more June 21 afternoon.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin between September 7 and 10, and will end no later than June 18.

To national holidays and Christmas holidays, we must add:

  • Easter holidays: from April 18 to 28, both included.
  • Regional party: December 3.
  • 2 days of local festivities which will mark the municipality of each municipality
  • Parties freely available which will mark each school at the beginning of the course, up to a maximum of 5 days.

Basque Country

The 2018/2019 academic year in the Basque Country will begin on September 7 and end no later than June 21, depending on the start date.

For Secondary Education students, classes will begin on September 7, and end no later than June 21.

To the national holidays we must add the Christmas holidays (which will include, at least, from December 24 to January 6, 2019), Easter holidays (which will include, at least, from April 18 to 22, 2019) and autonomous, local and freely available festivities that will be determined at the beginning of the school year.
