A new study by Jané and the RACC Automobile Club, has revealed that 75% of children hospitalized due to a traffic accident, did not use the child seat.
Although we all know that child restraint systems save lives, there are still parents who do not use it with laziness, comfort or carelessness with their children, especially on short journeys, precisely in situations that generate more traffic accidents.
According to the study carried out on 366 children under 12 years of age, it is from the age of six when the child seat is most often dispensed with and if it is, it is misused. The statistics are shocking, every week two children die in traffic accidents in Spain, 16 suffer serious injuries and 90 have minor injuries. It is important to know that the data collected “in situ” in 12 hospitals of the Spanish geography showed that children traveling with restraint systems did not suffer serious injuries to vital organs, did not have to enter the ICU or died.
We still do not understand how taxis are not required to carry child restraint systems in the urban area, but much less to parents who dispense with their use endangering their children's lives.
