It is increasingly common to hear of cases in which a relative, for example the grandmother of the future baby, acts as a surrogate mother for women who cannot conceive due to a fertility problem. They are acts of love and support that show us that when it comes to helping children, mothers are willing to do everything to see them happy.

But what happens after the baby is born? We tell you how the life of a grandmother who was surrogate mother Last year, who recently celebrated his daughter-granddaughter's birthday.

You may remember the story of the McKissack family, of which we tell you in Babies and more a year ago. Kelly and Aaron McKissack tried to have a baby for several years, but after suffering three miscarriages Kelly's mother, Tracy Thompson, volunteered as a surrogate mother. It all came up when Thompson remembered a conversation he had with his daughter as a teenager:

"Believe it or not, it occurred to her when she was 13," Thompson said, "when I was a teenager, she told me: 'Mom, if I can't have a baby, could you have it?' Of course I replied." .

A year later, the family celebrates Kelcey's first birthday. Thompson is a happy grandmother who enjoys playing with the granddaughter she gave birth after a pregnancy that left her exhausted. "Now, this is a lot of fun."says Thompson."It is best to see my daughter be a mom, see how much he loves Kelcey and the happiness he feels when he is with her. I feel like I have done something very good, because they are very good parents".

Although now they are happy and have received hundreds of emails with questions from other people who are considering the option of having a surrogate mother, have also received negative comments. Some have written them commenting on inbreeding and others have pointed to McKissack as selfish for not having adopted.

The family states that one day he will tell Kelcey the story of his birth, even if you are too young to understand it. "Being a surrogate mother is a good thing. It is not bad. Help build families"concludes McKissack.
