Preparing the baby basket: essential basics

The countdown is approaching to meet your baby and it's time to prepare all your little things to welcome you and start a new stage. A few weeks after leaving accounts, you will surely have your room ready and bought your clothes. Today, at Chicco Moments, we tell you how to prepare the baby basket so you don't miss anything when the long-awaited moment arrives.

When to start preparations

A few weeks before the probable date of delivery, around the week 36, is a good time to start preparing the basket that you will take to the hospital with all those things you will need while you are there. If it is a vaginal delivery without complications you will remain in the center for about two days, while if it is a cesarean birth, the admission will be extended to about four days. For this reason, we recommend that you prepare the basket for some three days, taking into account that if you need more things you can bring them a relative.

All clothing of the newborn you must wash them before first use with a neutral detergent for sensitive skin and without softener, to avoid irritation on your delicate skin. It is also recommended that you cut the labels so that they do not rub or disturb them. The baby's closet should be made up of 100% cotton garments, that are comfortable and without buttons or clasps that can hurt them.

What can not be missing

The baby basket must include the clothes for the first days, about 4 or 5 pieces of each. The bodies they are essential and if possible they have lateral opening, for greater comfort when dressing them.

You will also need t-shirts and leggings, or pants and socks, but babies often lose them easily, so better if they go together. If you prefer, you can wear sets or pajamas in one piece, although they are more complicated to remove and put on.

The clothes must be long sleeve (although born in warm months), since newborns do not regulate the temperature correctly and need to be well covered. For the same reason, the wearing a hat and socks, since the head and feet is where more body heat is lost. If you want, you can also wear mittens, since sometimes babies are born with very long nails. The first days, when they touch and explore your face, they can be scratched and this is a good way to avoid it.

In addition to your clothes, you must wear a blanket or coo, to wrap him when you take him in his arms and prevent him from distending and catching cold. This garment will also provide comfort, as it will feel wrapped and collected as when it was in the womb.

Hygiene and comfort for the most delicate

In the baby basket do not forget the diapers and wipes. Some hospitals provide these items, but in others, however, they must be taken from home. The first few days babies pee and poop very often, so you will need about 20 or 30.

Another basic of the basket is the toiletry bag, in which you must put your personal hygiene products, such as soap, cologne, moisturizer, comb, gauze and physiological serum, as well as scissors or lime in case you want to cut their nails.

Baby hygiene products should pamper and protect your skin to the maximum, that is why it is so important that they are specific to them and that they do not contain irritants. In mom's belly, baby's skin is naturally protected by the “vernix caseosa”, a thin white protective layer. Chicco Natural Sensation products are inspired precisely by vernix, and have been made with natural raw materials derived from rice, sweet almond, wheat germ and avocado, all with soothing and moisturizing properties.

All these items that you prepare for the baby basket will also work for you essential in its first weeks of life. And, although it is not an element of the hospital basket, when it is time for the baby to be born, do not forget to properly carry the car seat or the stroller, if you travel on foot for your return to House.
