Leave diapers (II), how to help the child

A few months ago I told you that Rodrigo had begun to control sphincters and was leaving diapers.

In a couple of weeks we had already removed the diapers and only used them at night and I can say that the process was a success. Of course that does not mean that occasionally when there is no mishap and a trickle escapes, especially when he is very distracted playing and waits until the last moment to warn that he wants to go to the bathroom.

Rodrigo's teacher gave us a series of tips and tips that helped a lot to start the process, once we had already observed signs that indicated that she was ready to leave the diapers.

Here I share with you those tips to help the child:

  • Plan, choose a weekend in which you can stay calm at home, have ready a dozen pieces of underwear for the little one and a selection of stories, if you have any on the use of the best poceta.
  • Upon waking the child in the morning, suggest sitting in the pot or pot without forcing it and putting on the underwear before going to breakfast.
  • After breakfast and at intervals of one hour, invite him to the bathroom to sit in the pot and read a story he likes very much, with striking stories and illustrations. The idea is to get the child to sit quietly while sitting in the pot. If you pee praise him, let him lower the lever himself and help him wash his hands and put on his underwear.

The idea is to create the habit and once he acquires it he will express his desire to go to the bathroom. You have to be aware that there can be mishaps and you don't have to give them importance, rather you have to take it away so that the child feels safe.

We parents have to be prepared for mishaps from time to time. If we go outside to bring change clothes, plastic bags, a small towel and wet wipes. For the school send it with underwear and provide change clothes and be in contact with the teacher.

And above all we must be consistent, move forward and frolic by having the child wear underwear or diapers at our convenience only makes the process difficult and can create insecurity and confusion in the child.

Many of the points are taken from the magazine of the National Association of Preschool Education of Washington D.C. "Young Children"

I hope you find them useful, they helped us a lot !!!
