Control of hypertension in pregnant women and children

The treatment of hypertension in pregnant women can prevent the onset of cardiovascular diseases in your childThis is stated by Dr. Empar Lurbe, and head of the Pediatric Service of the General University Hospital of Valencia Consortium and the Reference Unit "Against Cardiovascular Risk in Children and Adolescents of the Valencian Community".

Hypertension, cholesterol or diabetes can be transferred to the fetus if the future mother does not receive or perform adequate care for her illness. Currently they suffer from arterial hypertension between 1 and 3% of babies and adolescents in our country (from birth to 18 years of age), and when known, a treatment and follow-up is established, but the most complicated thing is to make a diagnosis early, because a treatment before hypertension is established would provide a better quality of life in the long term. Nowadays, blood pressure is controlled in pediatric consultations, which allows a greater knowledge of the development of children, which although it is a variable parameter at that age, monitoring makes possible the detection of clinical symptoms.

Dr. Lurbe reiterates the need to control the blood pressure of children, for now it is the only way to prevent cardiovascular diseases in adulthood.
